Holy Night, and the Final Business Week of the Year

I am enjoying the happily accidental fact that both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are on Sunday this year.

As an accounting entrepreneur empowering other entrepreneurs I place a lot of my belief system and work agenda in milestones.

Calendar months naturally equal accounting cycles.  Anybody with a business knows that, medical office or otherwise, but those months are made up of approximately 4.3 weeks.

And there’s only one left in the year.  A short one, at that, with the Monday holiday.

We work hard throughout the year, serving the patients and clients and other consumers of our services.

Without a single doubt in my mind today and tonight are a most excellent time to sit in the silence for a short while, and bask in the glow of gratitude for the life we are blessed to lead.

Silent Night

I remember once seeing the music for “Silent Night” in a hymnal, and the composition credit being some number of hundreds of years ago.

So I looked it up for you.

Turns out wasn’t the 16th century like I thought, but 1818.  I guess that’s still over 200 years.

In any case, it’s one of the most beautiful and haunting melodies ever written, and that’s saying a lot.

For me, it invokes that eerie acoustic quality that falling snow has.  Do you know what I mean?

Walking on a quiet lane in the country, or a wide trail in the woods, everything dampened to a beautiful peacefulness.

I know that for many Christmas Eve is a riotous occasion with much carrying on and family fun, maybe even a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” around a crackling fire.

Our thing is loading up our wiener-pug hybrid into the old SUV, and driving around looking at house lights for an hour or two after a quiet dinner together.

I have to say it again: it really feels special that it’s happening on Sunday this year.  It just seems right, proper, and satisfying.

The Final Week of the Year

There are many of us entrepreneurs and other self-employed individuals working this coming week after the celebration of Christmas tomorrow.

Gone are the days of our school years when this was a golden opportunity to goof off without guilt for a full two weeks.  Ah, the glory days of youth, am I right?

But for we grown-up business owners, the week ahead is an opportune time to prepare for all of the January things to follow.

End-of-year financials.  Forms 1099 and W2.  And then…taxes.

Oh joy.

I like to look at this upcoming week as a time to clean up past tasks, as out of a general feeling among our clientele there just don’t seem to be a lot of unusual demands cropping up.

I’m looking forward eagerly to clearing the runway this Tuesday through Saturday, and prepping for the 2024 takeoff.

For our physician business owners, of course we understand that illness doesn’t always take a holiday, but even for you there are opportunities to schedule administrative time.

Please keep in mind that if what we do can be of any help to you at all in the coming year, reach out on our site, Facebook, LinkedIn, whatever you prefer.

Otherwise, and until then…we all want to wish you a very Merry Christmas tomorrow, and a most silent and holy night tonight.

May you sleep in heavenly peace.
