I don’t know about you, but I’m in love with the whole seasonal rotation thing.
The implacable dawning of the world in spring after the cold of winter, everything waking up and coming alive.
Nature’s reminder that everything comes back.
I really love the evenings in the warm part of the year, too.
Whether you work for yourself or for someone else there’s nothing like being able to relax outside when the day is done.
What are we working for, if not to have a life beyond work?
I know that Memorial Day is quite often overlooked for its true purpose, to honor the fallen heroes of our nation, but the thing is that for so many of us it’s really the beginning of the summer season.
Sure, the solstice comes a few weeks later, but this weekend is the beginning of swimming pool season as well as a 3-day break for the working class.
Cooking in the backyard.
Hanging out and talking about life, the universe, and everything with the important people.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like we’re all really cracking open our COVID shells, and crawling out of the woodwork.
If it seems like it’s been one poop-storm after another because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the inevitable (I told you so, remember?) inflation resulting from all the free money from Uncle Sugar, and higher fuel prices I don’t blame you for feeling that way.
Here’s some perspective for you:
During Operation Desert Storm and the Great American Hoax (“weapons of mass destruction”) of the early 00’s gas prices were significantly higher (adjusted for inflation) than they are now.
The year I got my first and only real estate license, 1986, the rate of a 30-year fixed mortgage was hovering around 19%.
The Dow, S&P 500, and NASDAQ have been getting their asses handed to them the past 8 weeks, but if you haven’t looked at Friday’s closing yet, go do it.
It’s coming back, strong. Because, duh, people are going to keep buying stuff.
We are coming back to life along with the northern half of the planet, because we tend to do that.
I’m keeping this short today. No grand point or final wisdom, really, just words of encouragement and hope.
Life will find a way.
So will that business you’re running.
Communicate your value, and provide more value than your price.
Keep doing the things. You only fail when you quit.
And, for the love of God, take time to enjoy the season and the warm welcoming summer air.
Outside, with family and friends.
If you’re reading this you got up this morning, alive for one more incredible day.
This is a cause for celebration.
Happy Summer, everyone!
