The Year Ahead

It’s that most wonderful time of year again.

December!

This month means a lot to me now for a multitude of business metric reasons.

Besides that, December also evokes a phantasmagoria of treasured memories from a distant childhood.

There was a department store on the busiest street in the suburb of my youth, and the beginning of December heralded in a complete emptying of the normal posey mannequins in the front window displays.

The tree and the fake snow and the Santa throne fit for a king would make their annual appearance, and I’d begin bugging the shit out of the parents to take me to see The Jolly Old Elf himself.

It’s a magical time of year for the young people, no getting around it.

Therefore, the magic runneth over for us all.

Let me knock myself loose from my own self-reverie here, and share at least one more reason why I’m enthusiastic about the last month of the year.

The aforementioned metrics.

December means the end of the year, naturally, which for most of us means the end of an accounting cycle.

How did your year go so far?

Are you poised to call this a good year, relative to previous years?

With 11 months firmly over, and a fairly decent idea of what to expect in the next four weeks, you are in a position to forecast the entire year pretty reasonably.

I know, there’s a lot going on.

Thanksgiving’s clean up, hanging the lights, checking off your naughty and nice lists, all while still doing all of the business things.

Plus, heaven forbid you get yourself a nice case of the early winter flu.

I feel ya.

After 2 ½ lucky years we finally got the dreaded yellow virus.

(I guess I’m thinking about the old snack food “Screaming Yellow Zonkers” when that comes to mind.  No racial overtones intended).

Trying to do “all the things,” when all you feel like doing is going back to bed most of the day, is an effort of the will.

But we will soldier on, don’t we?   Every single parent knows the refrain to that song, and so do we nice older entrepreneurial people.

Let us then contemplate the opportunity December affords us for our businesses.

That opportunity is nothing short of thinking ahead to what our 2023 can be for us.

You, your family, your business, your employees and contractors.

Think about that for a second.  Once you endeavor to create personal wealth through your personal talent or skill you really do create your own little ecosystem, don’t you?

We all the the weather isn’t an exact science, don’t we?  I’ve always mused that I would tell any young undergrad searching for their place in life to study meteorology.

It’s the one science you can make a comfortable living in being consistently wrong.

No pressure!

But seriously, folks…

Planning your 2023 is an idea with a lot of merit.

First of all, you don’t have to do it perfectly.

Secondly, it gives you a roadmap to find your way to your destination, your Main Goal.

What, then, is that goal?

Do you see your business 2X of the previous year?  3X?  5X?

Write it down.

Then, write down a plan, and get real about what that will look like each month of the upcoming year.

Whoever said, “A goal without a plan is a daydream” was right.

But there’s one more thing.

Execution.

You must take massive action on that plan.

So, write out that plan with the fruition of your efforts in mind as a given, not just a wish.

We’ll be helping a number of real estate investors with their one- and three-year plans for wealth and success in the very near future, and if you’d like that kind of help, join us!
