That is the question.
Hamlet would go on to say something about the nobility of suffering for the sake of outrageous fortune.
Or contemplate the attraction of just giving up and going to sleep.
Forever.
But of course, no getting around this:
Hamlet was a drama queen.
Plus, if you ever think checking out for good and wasting your precious life is an option?
Let’s just say that if you’re following me, you should know better.
We need to talk.
Let’s assume that’s a non-starter and move on.
I’d like to start with the concept of “live to work.”
You get up, you do what you do to get ready for crunch time, and you go.
Making the cold calls, wearing out the shoe leather, grinding away for hours on a keyboard, whatever.
You love what you do, and everyone knows it.
This is a good thing if you want to get ahead.
It is a terribly bad thing if you’re the spouse or child of this person, though.
I know.
I have a spouse myself.
You have to find time to do something other than work, or the people that love you begin to think you don’t love them back so much anymore.
You know it’s nothing personal, but the thing is you’re missing the point.
The point is, you really don’t know at all.
There is a season for all things, and I’m telling you that if you just go-go-go no breaks, and make the fatal error of telling your significant honey how busy you are, watch out.
It’s going to look like you don’t care about him or her any more.
So…if you DO care, you’d better make some time to say it.
Write it into your day planner, if you have to.
You have to take the time to be a human being, and what’s more important…
…you really should be doing it for yourself, anyway.
Don’t lose sight of the reason you’re doing all of that work.
Don’t be the parent that misses the kid’s piano recital.
Your people need you, if you’re lucky enough to have people.
Make the time.
I promise you it’s worth it.
This is what I mean by “work to live,” in case you weren’t getting that.
If you are getting to the point where you’re no fun anymore, I can help a little here.
It’s time to get help.
People can amass quantities of money far in excess of the number of lifetimes they will ever have to spend it, but they can never make more time.
How, therefore, do the wealthy find the time they have to do the finer things in life?
They purchase it.
What this means, Lone Ranger, is stop being Kemosabe and hire yourself some help.
It’s time to do a little empire building, and make time to run your business.
Instead of letting it run you.
That is all for this week, because quite frankly?
I’m wrapping up a one-and-a-half vacation as I write this!
(Yeah, okay, I hear ya…Eric, what the hell, you’re working right now! Right?)
But hey, I LOVE this!
And my wife is still sleeping in.
Time is precious, and so are your personal relationships.
Make time in your business to take care of your business.
That means your personal business, too, you.
And, have your most amazing life!
